Hmm... Perhaps. It seems a bit obscure though—is zwsp actually used in Japanese texts? It seems to be more recommended for use in southeast asian scripts though... I leave it up to you, though of course if you do decide on using zwsp leaving redirects would be a good idea. —Myces Tiberinus 23:42 nov 22, 2004 (UTC)

I doubt that zwsp is very much actually used - if a visible space isn't used, it's nothing. But, according to unicode, it's supposed to be. OTOH, umlauts are supposed to be distinguished from diaeresis/trema by a zero-width joiner, but I seriously doubt that is every used anywhere. --Vladisdead 02:05 nov 23, 2004 (UTC)

Combining grapheme joiner, apparently. This is apparently only the case for languages like German that use tremas (the mark) for both umlaut (vowel modification) and diaeresis (vowel separation) though? Seems complicated, may require more study :p

Using the zwsp does have one effect; Google:猿​も​木​から​落ちる with zwsp treats them as spaces, searching for them all as separate words, and coming up with ten times as many hits as Google:猿も木から落ちる sans zwsp—which might be a desirable effect, were the whole point not that this is a unitary phrase. (BTW, Google:"猿​も​木​から​落ちる" (zwsp, in quote marks) actually pulls up results, though mostly PDFs — likely some smart distiller is inserting them.) —Myces Tiberinus 05:53 nov 23, 2004 (UTC)
