Comcáac quih yaza quih hant ihíip hac says that this word is from Spanish coche, possibly through O'odham kohji. This would it mean it goes aaaall the way back to the Hungarian placename Kocs. But how does a word for "car" end up meaning "pig"? --Vlad 19:57 sep 12, 2005 (UTC)

I already answered you in IRC, but for future runners-across of this page: the other spanish word coche means 'pig' and is apparently derived from the word cochi which is a word used to call pigs (like sooie in English).
Actually unless this final vowel in -i is characteristic of borrowings from Spanish in '-e', the etymon may even be cochi itself. —Myces Tiberinus 06:29 sep 13, 2005 (UTC)
